Neighborhood Notification: DCR Revision Committee

Hello neighbors,

A few years back, the Oakbridge Community Services Association (OCSA) began work on an updated Declaration of Covenants and Restrictions (DCR) document, which is the primary document that governs our neighborhood. The purpose was not to implement any significant change, but to make it easier to read and understand and better fit our now-developed status, as the current DCR is still the original document from when the neighborhood was first being developed many decades ago. More recently, a revised DCR was drafted and shared with the community, and the main concern raised was one we already had ourselves: ensuring that the new document would be implemented in such a way that it would be legally binding and that we wouldn’t be creating legal trouble for the neighborhood in the future. After looking more deeply into this topic, we determined that there was too much we didn’t know to be able to confidently acquire/prepare necessary documents in advance of hiring legal counsel, which would then result in more extensive fees and an extended timeline. With the original DCR still being functional and meeting our needs, the OCSA has now indefinitely halted its revision to avoid an undue financial burden on the neighborhood. The draft revision and other work on this topic will be retained should it ever be needed in the future.

Sincerely,
The OCSA DCR Revision Committee
